Summary of “Pub and a Rock”

The first stop on our busy day is for morning coffee in the charming and un-spoilt Morrissey’s Pub. This 18th century Inn was remodeled in the Victorian era and has stayed the same ever since. The grocery section survives while the plain but unpretentious bar makes a home away from home.

Plenty to focus on your cameras this morning as we approach one of the most striking historic sites in Ireland, this rocky stronghold, which rises dramatically out of the Tipperary plain, was the symbol of Royal and Priestly power for more than a millennium. It has strong associations with St Patrick and St Declan. Fortified from a very early date, it was the stronghold of Brian Boru and is the home of the earliest Romanesque church in Ireland.

Next to the charming city of Kilkenny, one of the oldest and most interesting towns of Ireland with the centres of ecclesiastical and civic power. St Canice’s Cathedral the second largest medieval cathedral in Ireland c. 1202 and the castle dating from 1192, linked by the main street. The rich assemblages of historic buildings, which range from early and late medieval to the 18th and 19th century, give it character different from many other Irish towns.
